Dave Locke from the Quinte Elk Restoration Committee presented Kevin Vance, chair of the North Hastings Community Fish Hatchery, with a generous donation of $650 on Dec. 7. This was in addition to the $1,500 the group made to the hatchery earlier this year.
According to Locke, this money comes from previous fundraising efforts by QERC for environmental conservation, restoration and rehabilitation initiatives. “I can’t think of a better organization to put it towards,†says Locke.
Vance is pleased that so many individuals and groups have stepped up to contribute to the hatchery over the course of a year when COVID-19 impacted so many of their plans. They had to cancel their major annual fundraiser, the popular community dinner and auction, in July.
